The Benefits of Nitrogen for Tire Inflation

Nitrogen tire inflation has several benefits over standard oxygen tire inflation.  Improvements in both fuel economy and your vehicle's handling will be noticeable.  Your tires will retain their air pressure longer resulting in longer overall tire life.  Nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules.  This makes it easier for oxygen to escape from a tire than nitrogen.  The ability to retain air pressure longer not only extends the life of your tire, it also helps prevent blowouts caused by under inflated tires.

Oxygen can cause oxidation and damage to other materials it comes into contact with over time.  Unlike nitrogen, oxygen can damage the rubber in your tires and cause them to lose their strength.
